Home exchange is a way of moving. You need to look for a candidate who wants to swap houses with you. Bear in mind that the rent will be recalculated after the exchange.

Rules for home exchange
Home exchange must meet the following conditions:

  • You can request a home exchange if you have lived in your house for at least one year. The income requirements and rules that apply to the allocation of houses also apply to home exchange.

  • Home exchange is only allowed if both parties have a good reason to exchange houses and intend to continue living in the house. In addition, the house must be suitable in terms of family composition.

  • Home exchange is not allowed if one of the parties has rent arrears.

What documents do I need to provide?

  • A copy of a valid ID (from both exchange partners);

  • A motivation letter (from both exchange partners);

  • Extract from the Civil Registry (from the exchange partner)

  • Income details (from the exchange partner). An income statement from the Tax Authorities, annual statements and salary slips from the last three months;

  • Landlord’s statement (from the exchange partner);

  • Emailadress (from the exchange partner);

  • Phonenumber (from the exchange partner).

What happens after I have requested a home exchange?

  • Processing your request may take four to six weeks.

  • An employee of Lieven de Stad will visit your house for a preliminary inspection and agreements will be made about the handover of your house.

  • The exchange must also be requested from the landlord of your exchange partner. We can finalise the exchange after their approval.

Are there any costs involved in the home exchange?

If your request is approved, you will be charged an administration fee of EUR 75.00 for the new rental agreement.

How much will the rent be after the home exchange?

  • Home exchange is handled as a new rental agreement. The rent is determined again, and your exchange partner receives a new rental agreement. In other words, you are swapping a house and not a rental agreement.

  • Before you make the request, our employees can give you an indication of the new rent. The definitive rent can only be calculated once we have carried out the preliminary inspection of your house.
